AI-powered immediate response to pandemics

In 2020, the Future Society prepared an exploratory report for the AI & Pandemic Response sub working group containing a catalogue of AI initiatives developed and used in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. In light of the pandemic further developing and changing over the last year and 2021, these initiatives need to be re-evaluated including scalability and considerations of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on developing countries as the developed world slowly reopens following lockdowns and vaccination campaigns.

The project aims to directly support impactful and practical AI initiatives to help in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

AI-powered immediate response to pandemics: Update on living repository (summaries of top initiatives prepared for GPAI by The Future Society, November 2021)

The short-term outputs of the project are:

  • Updated and upgraded The Future Society catalogue, which is transformed into a living repository of AI initiatives for pandemic response.
  • Evaluation of 1-3 of the most promising initiatives in terms of impact, effectiveness, and scalability.

Call for proposals (deadline 18 June 2021)

This project is limited to short-term duration because its primary goal is to support the development of AI tools to help in the worldwide fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
